Writing Coach

Due to high demand, Bryn isn’t taking new coaching clients at this time, but will likely be open to them in the future! Bryn and Gill are still available to help with all your editing needs. Thanks so much for your interest!

HEY, BRILLIANT
AUTHOR.

Let’s work together!

I’m Bryn Donovan, and I’d love to help you pursue your writing dreams. Whether you’re just starting out, starting again, or navigating the middle of your author career, I bring empathy and industry knowledge to every private coaching session. My goal is to leave you more informed, confident, and inspired.

What do writing coaches do?

As a book coach, I draw on my past experience as a executive editor in publishing and as a creative writing teacher at the university level. I talk through any issues you might be dealing with, giving professional advice, brainstorming with you, and encouraging you in your writing journey. My writing coaching can include helping you with issues like:

I want to get back into writing again, and I’m not sure where to start.

I have so many book ideas. Which one should I work on next?

Can I get some feedback on my story idea, title, query letter, synopsis, product description, or cover design?

I need some advice with author branding.

I’m so busy. How can I find more time to write?

I have great characters, but I need help coming up with a plot!

I’m stuck on an issue in my current project. Can we brainstorm solutions?

Should I self-publish or try the traditional publishing route?

I want help on a strategy to break through to the next level in my author career.

I’m feeling discouraged about my writing. Can we talk it out?

But those are only a few examples of what I can address as a book writing coach! We can work on and talk about whatever you want. I’ve worked with writers at every stage of their careers. All services are 100% confidential.

My Author Coach Credentials

I earned my MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Arizona, where I taught creative writing courses. My experience includes being an executive editor in publishing and the author of several novels (including Sunrise Cabin, a Publishers Weekly bestseller), ten children’s books, and nonfiction books on writing, including Master Lists for Writers and 5,000 Writing Prompts. I developed the story treatments for two Hallmark Channel movies, and I’ve published in Writer’s Digest, McSweeney’s, and many literary journals, including Ploughshares, The Antioch Review, and North American Review. I blog about writing and positivity at BrynDonovan.com. As a top writing coach, I’m dedicated to helping you pursue your goals.

Private Writing Coach Rates: $100/Session

Some writing coaches, including those with fewer credentials, try to lock writers into regimented group coaching programs that cost thousands and thousands of dollars. I offer private, one-on-one coaching tailored to your needs. Because you pay by the hour, you have complete flexibility. You can schedule one session, a session every week for a while, or whatever works for you.

For me, a private coaching session consists of three parts:

Preparation

I consider your situation, your questions, and anything else you tell me over email. You are also welcome to send me other documents regarding your author history or future plans so that I can review and consider them before your call. I don’t read manuscripts to give feedback in a writing coach session. However, we can review any document you like, including synopses and query letters, together as a part of our session.

Coaching

Typically, I’ll send a Zoom invite for a one-hour session, but when you book the appointment, let me know if you prefer a phone call. If we Zoom, I will be on camera, but you don’t have to be if you don’t feel like it. It’s up to you!

I will listen closely to your concerns. I may ask thought-provoking questions, but in the end, you are in charge of your writing and your career decisions, and I’m here to support you.

Follow Up

I will follow up our author coaching session with a “Recap and Resources” email so that you’ll have a good reference of our conversation and other resources to turn to as you pursue your writing goals.
